Zhong Xiao Elementary School(ZXES) is located in the northeast of Cheng Gong Town, the largest fishing port in Eastern Taiwan. ZXES is the oldest elementary school on Taiwan’s East Coast and one of the eleven century-old schools in Taitung County. At first, ZXES was founded in 1904 and named “Cheng Guang Ao”, the branch of Taitung Official Language School. It was renamed as “Zhong Xiao Citizen School” in 1946 and established the branch “Bo Ai” in the same year. In 1968, it was renamed as “Zhong Xiao Elementary School” because the period of national compulsory education was extended to nine years.

  The scenery of our campus is very pleasing and relaxing. There are nine century-old pine trees and one of them is located on the playground. Outside the campus, it belongs to the East Coast National Scenic Area, the most beautiful coastline in Taiwan. Odd-shaped rocks are everywhere and the marine ecology is very rich. These are very helpful to students’ environmental education. In the human geography, ZXES is part of  aboriginal areas and a large percentage of children are indigenous people – “Amis”.

   The three vision of ZXES are “Happiness”, “Gratitude” and “Transcendence”. In other words, we wish students can enjoy learning, respect and care about others, and surpass themselves. Since the elementary schooling serves as the roots of education, we try our best to foster students’ ability to accommodate themselves to the modern life. We pay attention to individual differences and put great efforts into developing everyone’s potential. Besides establishing the general scholastic ability, we teach students how to express oneself well, and how to communicate, share, and cooperate with others. We help students develop positive values and attitude towards life and hope that every “Zhong Xiao Child” becomes optimistic, confident and responsible.

  ZXES has a fine tradition of physical education and the atmosphere of sports in campus is very prosperous. In the past, the school organized and trained several athletic teams such as soccer, baseball , track and field. ZXES was the Boys Champion of “Taitung County Primary/Junior High School United Athletic Games” in 2006. At present, the key sport project is the modern pentathlon, which comprises five different events: fencing, 200m freestyle swimming, show jumping, pistol shooting and a 3200m cross-country run. It has been a core sport of the Olympic Games. Although there is no swimming pool in ZXES, the team coach tries her best to offer a lot of physical training during week days and takes students to the town swimming pool during weekends. In recent years, “Zhong Xiao Modern Pentathlon Team” becomes the shining winner on the national competitions’ list.

  Including the Bo Ai branch, ZXES is a mini school which student number is less than 80. In spite of the small scale, we are special and beautiful.
